The antecedants of BBI stem back into the vibrant tradition of self-help and community
action that has existed in inner city Derry for Many years.
Against the backdrop of the new political and social
potential the BBI, facilitated by the Bogside and Brandywell
Development Association, emerged after extensive process
of community consultation in the Bogside, Brandywell
and Greater Bishop Street neighbourhoods of Derry.
The process
commenced in January 1995 and led to the publication
of "Tus Leis an Obair" an initial regeneration strategy
for the area in August 1995; and Decades of neglect,
a social profile of the area in October 1995. Later
that same month the BBI was offically launched.
