Our Graduation

As well as the above mentioned courses we often run individual projects e.g. "Women's Routes" as already mentioned, "Solas an Leinn" which was funded by the NI Equal/Accord programme and has been running since 2002 and ended in March 2005. This project was aimed at young lone mums and offered Maths and English, Personal Development, Active Citizenship, Arts and Crafts and IT.

This year the "Helios" Project hopes to recruit 24 women aged 18+ to a two year construction skills training course.

The Helios Project aims to examine the barriers that women face when entering 'non-traditional' trades, the actual training structure and attitudes of tutors involved in training.

Training will begin in September 2005. In the first year participants will have a chance to sample at least five construction trade skills such as bricklaying, tiling, painting and decorating, plumbing and electrical.

In the second year of the course the women will have the opportunity to specialise in one or two of the trades. This element of the course will be held at the Training Centre, Springtown Industrial Estate, and travel arrangements will be made for all participants.

The course will also include mentoring support; personal development; careers advice; self-employment opportunities' awareness and a childcare/carers allowance is available.

A Big Brother style 'Digital Diary Room' will be set up to let participants have their say on how the course is going and the women will also be given the chance to help plan course structure through Face-to-Face Forum with tutors, Helios Members and statutory agencies.
